Often, diet and skipping meal are understood as the same thing. There are times when people argue that they are doing diets but actually they are just skipping their meals. Both diet and skipping meals has different outcomes, as diet never encourage the people to starve themselves. In doing diets, you still need to have your meals 3 times a day and even more; it is not only about losing weigh but more likely about balancing your daily consumption and the need of energy. In some cases, diets might encourage you to reduce the portion of your meal or to avoid several ingredients that might harm your body. But there is possibility that adding calorie and nutrition to your meal are necessary when your balance diet is designed for specific medication. Replacing some ingredients such as carbohydrate and fat are common in diet, usually vegetables and fruits become the main substitutes.
In practice, skipping meals is similar with starving yourself by skipping breakfast, lunch, or dinner. People often prefer to skip their dinner or breakfast in order to gain less weight, some of them believe that eating dinner will only build more fat to your body instead of causing benefit. The outcomes of this practice are to gain less weight and to shape your body. Often, people who chose to skip meals also reduce the amount of food that they usually eat. You can lose 5kg to 6kg in a month, but the result will not be permanent as the practice is not based on a healthy habit.
Instead of giving permanent result, skipping meals tend to cause severe side effects. The most common side effect that occurs in patients is over eating, as they starve for long periods which cause them to eat double during meal time. Malnutrition is also common among patients who skip their meal, it will leads to sides effect such a dizziness, fatigue, and poor mental function. It also triggers serious illness such as such as diabetes, heart disease, insulin resistance, gastric pain and poor immune system.
Even though skipping meals tend to cause more damage than benefit, but some researchers believe that skipping meals will reduce the inflammation in your body which is beneficial for patients with cancer. You will also lose weight easily especially if you combine it with daily exercise. However, you might experience bonking which is caused by low sugar level. Some medication might encourage you to skip some meals, but it doesn’t mean that it is effective in every cases. You might need to discuss your plan with your doctor and nutritionist to see if skipping meals will give benefit to your body or it will cause permanent damage that lead to severe illness.
